Description

Delicious homemade blueberry cinnamon rolls topped with a sweet blueberry frosting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 cups frozen wild blueberries
  • 3/4 cup + 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp lemon zest
  • 12 tsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp + 2 tsp corn starch
  • 2 tbsp + 2 tsp water
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup salted butter, melted
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 and 1/2 tsp instant yeast
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 4 cups + 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup salted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 5 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream, for pouring over the rolls
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tbsp salted butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup + 1 tbsp blueberry filling
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Make the Blueberry Filling: Add blueberries, sugar, lemon juice, and lemon zest to a medium pot over medium heat. Cook for 7-9 minutes. Stir together corn starch and water in a bowl until dissolved and add to simmering mixture to thicken.
  2. Make the Dough: In a stand mixer, combine melted butter, warm milk, eggs, sugar, yeast, and salt. Whisk thoroughly, then add flour and mix until combined. Let it rest before kneading.
  3. Knead the dough on low speed for 5-7 minutes until smooth but slightly slack. Let it rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.
  4. Make the Cinnamon Filling: Beat together remaining filling ingredients until well combined.
  5. Assemble the Rolls: Roll the dough out and spread the cinnamon filling, then add blueberry filling. Roll up dough and slice into rolls, placing in a prepared pan.
  6. Let assembled rolls rise for 30-40 minutes and preheat oven to 325°F.
  7. Bake for 42-46 minutes until golden brown and set.
  8. Make the Frosting: Beat cream cheese and butter until combined, then mix in powdered sugar and puree blueberry filling with remaining ingredients, adjusting flavors as desired.
  9. Serve: Frost warm rolls with blueberry frosting and enjoy immediately, storing leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2-3 days.

Notes

  • Make the blueberry filling up to 3 days in advance and store in a jar in the fridge.
  • If the dough is too cold, it may take longer to rise.
  • These rolls are best served fresh but can be reheated gently in the microwave.
